Welcome to the website of Laura Wiley, flutist.

About me:

I grew up in Bloomington, Indiana. As a high school student, I took lessons at the Indiana University School of Music. Growing up around the School of Music with its many performance offerings provided me with a source of inspiration and disciplined practice habits. Later, I attended Columbia University in New York City, and continued to take flute lessons and play in the pit orchestras of musical theater productions.

When I graduated from college, I moved to the SF Bay Area of northern California and continued to study the flute with Paul Renzi, principle flutist of the San Francisco Symphony, and Stephen Schultz, principle flutist of the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. My graduate studies in music were done at Holy Names University, where I played in the Holy Names orchestra under the direction of Roy Bogas.

I now play in chamber orchestras and the pit orchestras of musical theater productions and as a duo, with harp, guitar, other wind instruments, or piano.

I have performed some of my original and transcribed works for flute and piano at the National Flute Association Convention. I am available to play at weddings, parties and other events alone or with guitar, harp, or piano. Please contact me to discuss rates.

I have recorded two CDs which may be purchased on this site: one of Classical and Romantic works for flute and piano (A Musical Collage) and one of original works, composed by me and the pianist, for flute and piano (January Rain). I enjoy recording and am available for studio work.

I am now playing and recording with guitarist Ken Husbands. Our repertoire includes a combination of jazz, Brazilian and classical music. Visit The Wiley Husbands Duo to hear samples of our music.
